Ajax had the opportunity to hire Oliver Glasner as their coach in 2023, but they decided not to. The Austrian was the top choice of Sven Mislintat, the former Ajax chief, who was looking for a new job after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt.Mislintat recommended Glasner to the Ajax board, but they were hesitant to hire a foreign coach. Instead, they chose Maurice Steijn, who was working at Sparta Rotterdam at the time.

However, Steijn's tenure at Ajax was short-lived, as he left the club in October. Glasner, on the other hand, went on to become the manager of Crystal Palace, leading the team to FA Cup glory last season.
