Calhanoglu, who was instrumental in the comeback, insists his side deserved the win. 'I expected this suffering, against a very strong team like Bayern Munich,' he said. 'They have players with values. We were prepared, we came back strong in the second half, making it 1-1 and then 2-1.'
When Bayern took a 1-0 lead, Calhanoglu was quick to point out the importance of details. 'These are the moments that make the difference. We didn't give up, we immediately made it 2-1 and then another ten minutes of high-level play. Then we dropped back to defend our goal.'
Calhanoglu also credited their fans for the crucial support. 'Our fans helped us a lot. We must always believe that we can hurt our opponents,' he said.
Playing in a deeper role, Calhanoglu admitted, 'We tried to get up, I went to Kimmich. But behind me, there was someone like Thomas Müller, someone who makes dangerous movements, so I stayed more in front of the defense and they had the ball more than we did in midfield.'
