Farquharson was tracked down by police to Spain, where he was arrested in January 2023 and extradited back to the UK for trial. He has now been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the manslaughter of Sekou Doucoure after a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.
Judge Paul Farrer KC delivered the sentence, stating that Farquharson had intentionally sought to cause injury to Doucoure, who was a member of a rival gang. The judge noted that Farquharson was armed with a significant knife and engaged in a knife fight with Doucoure, resulting in his fatal injury.
Marietou Doucoure, Sekou's mother, spoke in court, describing her son as the "glue" that held her family together. She expressed deep anger and sadness towards Farquharson, acknowledging that her son had both positive and negative qualities, but was ultimately a good person who was deeply missed.
The court's decision brings a sense of closure to the family and loved ones of Sekou Doucoure, who will continue to grieve the loss of their loved one.
