Following comments from president Varandas regarding the club's asking price and the likelihood of Gyokeres leaving, the forward has informed Sporting that he will not return. This decision is reportedly due to feelings of betrayal.

Gyokeres believes that an agreement was made with the club for him to be sold for €60 million, plus an additional €10 million in bonuses. However, Sporting are insisting on a higher fee, despite Gyokeres' impressive record of 54 goals in 52 games across all competitions last season.
